Description

Originally built in the 11th century during the reign of Louis VI, known as "the Fat," the mill evolved and expanded until the 19th century, becoming the house that welcomes you today. At Moulin du Bas Pezé, you arrive at an imposing residence nestled in a tranquil green setting, its air of mystery evoking memories that might remind you of the house in Le Grand Meaulnes, not so far removed from this enchanting place. You will then have the privilege of discovering a veritable small museum as you enter the mill's main room, with its still-functioning mechanism, a sight to behold, and an 11th-century stone on the floor! Imagine the number of generations who have walked this very ground! If you have breakfast here, you will sit above the river and enjoy an exceptional view from the kitchen, which overlooks various bodies of water surrounded by lush vegetation. You'll discover the rhythm of the animals that live here full-time, the circling of the mallards as they finally take flight or surprise you by landing in the water's wake. The peacock will charm you with its ritual, majestic as it perches on its pedestal, then as it busies itself preening when it lands on the deck, hoping to catch a few rays of sunshine, or perhaps, while scrutinizing you, wondering if you might offer it a few crumbs of your breakfast. The donkeys, too, are always on the lookout for a snack, and then there are all the others who won't forget to call out to you. The entire river ecosystem thrives here, offering a delightful charm with its vibrant colors, the unexpected arrival of the kingfisher, and the swirling dragonflies. At the mill, you can also embark on a boat if you fancy enjoying the tranquility at water level, or, for the more adventurous, drift all the way to the Château de Villesavin. From the mill, you have direct access to the Châteaux cycling route, where you can choose your itinerary: Chambord with a charming forest ride, or Cheverny. The mill can be seen as a strategic location for discovering the jewels of the kings, but it's also the perfect place to extend your exploration to the smaller châteaux nearby, such as the Château du Moulin and Troussay, each with its own undeniable appeal.
