To the northeast of theAllier, the Beaulon – Dompierre-sur-Besbre – Diou greenway offers an ideal getaway for cycling enthusiasts, whether with family or friends. For nearly 30 km, it winds its way between the the Loire river and the Loire lateral canal, in a peaceful and bucolic green setting, ideal for relaxation and exploration. Whether you're on a classic bike or a... VAEThis route, free from motorized traffic, guarantees an accessible and safe experience, particularly suitable for families with children.

The route begins at Percières, in Dompierre-sur-Besbreand reaches the Digoin lock, following the towpath. Throughout the journey, the river heritage reveals itself in all its diversity: six locks, four canal bridges (including those of the Loire and the Besbre), as well as aqueducts and weirs punctuate the route.

The towns and villages along the route – Beaulon, Dompierre, Diou – offer plenty of opportunities for leisurely strolls. Those with a thirst for discovery can extend their walk to major sites such as the Sept-Fons Abbey or the Le PAL amusement park, accessible via the surrounding cycle routes. For those wishing to extend their adventure, the greenway is part of theEuroVelo 6, a famous cycle route from the Atlantic to the Black Sea, and naturally extends into two other greenways in Saône-et-Loire: Digoin – Paray-le-Monial (18 km) and Gilly-sur-Loire – Bourbon-Lancy (12 km), renowned spa resort.
