The Blavet Green Way is an invitation to discover inland Brittany, along a 62 km route from Hennebont to Pontivy. It forms part of the Brittany cycle route (route 8). Following the old towpath, this shaded cycle path is perfect for a family outing, whether you're on a regular bicycle or an e-bike. Before setting off, be sure to consult the Blavet Green Way map to plan your route and identify points of interest.
From the very start in Hennebont, the ramparts and the National Stud Farm offer a first glimpse of the rich local heritage. Following the river, you reach Inzinzac-Lochrist, where the Forges industrial ecomuseum retraces the site's working-class history. For a more active break, the whitewater park offers the chance to try kayaking or try something different.
The rest of the route reveals a landscape alternating between steep-sided meanders and wide agricultural valleys. In Saint-Nicolas-des-Eaux, the peaceful setting lends itself to a break by the water. Every summer, the "Art in the Chapels" event brings the surrounding religious heritage to life. A little further on, Pont-Augan marks a strategic point for reaching Poul-Fétan, a Breton village where artisans and historical reenactments transport visitors back in time.
Upon reaching Pontivy, the Blavet River intersects with the Nantes-Brest Canal, opening up connections to other cycling routes, notably EuroVelo 1, the Vélodyssée. Throughout the journey, numerous flower-adorned locks punctuate the ride, providing an enchanting setting for this adventure accessible to all. Whether for a leisurely stroll or a more athletic exploration, this greenway captivates with its diversity and authenticity.
