Description

Alès, a city committed to cycling

The Gardon greenway in Alès, inaugurated in 2010, offers a safe, north-south crossing of the city, stretching 7 kilometers along the Gardon River. Designed to meet the needs of families, it is accessible to cyclists, rollerbladers, pedestrians, and wheelchair users. This cycle path, separated from traffic, provides a gentle escape in the heart of the Alès urban area, from the Pôle Mécanique roundabout to the Pont Neuf bridge and the southern ring road.

For cycling and e-bike (electric bike) enthusiasts, this route offers a pleasant experience, combining practicality and discovery, and reveals a varied heritage, half-nature, half-urban, with green spaces, landscaped riverbanks and points of interest such as the historic city center of Alès.

The Gardon greenway map highlights current and future connections with other local cycle paths. For example, links lead to Saint-Martin-de-Valgalgues, Saint-Privat-des-Vieux, and Saint-Christol-lez-Alès. These extensions aim to transform the greenway into the backbone of a larger cycle network, reaching 30 kilometers in the coming years.

Finally, this greenway in Alès is one of the links in the Gard greenway network: the V70 and Régordane route, possible connections south from Lézan towards Anduze, or Quissac, Sommières and the Mediterranean or the V85 towards St Hippolyte du Fort, Ganges or north to connect to the Via Ardèche.

Along the way, secure bike parking is available throughout the city. Alès is ideal for a family bike ride. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll or an eco-friendly mode of transport, the Gardon greenway is waiting to be explored.
