Description

Destination Manche, access to the sea by bike from Coutances

The Soulles greenway in the Cotentin region, linking Coutances to the coast at Pont de la Roque, is an invitation to discovery, ideal for a family outing in the Manche department. This varied and accessible route, alternating between farm tracks and compacted sandy soil, winds through the Coutances bocage along the Soulles river, offering a bucolic and peaceful setting. Thanks to its dedicated cycle path, it welcomes both classic cyclists and e-bike enthusiasts.

The first part of the route follows gently rolling farm tracks, perfect for enjoying beautiful panoramic views of the countryside. The second half runs alongside the Soulles River on a former towpath, now a greenway. Two remarkable features await visitors: the secure footbridges of the old Sauvagère and Paillasse mills, testaments to the region's rich industrial past. The ruins of the old locks, remnants of a time when barges plied the river, also dot the route.

Coutances is a town with a remarkable heritage, where you shouldn't miss the famous cathedral, the botanical garden, and the historic alleyways. At the other end, the Pont de la Roque marks the beginning of the Sienne estuary, an exceptional natural site. For those who want to explore further, this greenway connects to other local cycling routes, allowing you to discover the Manche region: the Cotentin Greenway and the Mont Saint-Michel Bay Greenway.

Before setting off, consult the Soulles greenway map to locate points of interest and rest areas. An adventure combining nature, sport, and culture awaits you in the heart of the Cotentin peninsula.
