Green Way The Train Route (From Gilley to Pontarlier)

The Green Way "The Train Path" is an ideal cycle path for a family outing. Located in the Haut-Doubs region, on the Swiss border, this greenway offers an easy and safe route, perfectly suited for bike rides with children. 

This cycle path begins in Gilley, a small, picturesque village. Before setting off, it's advisable to consult a map of the area to locate the various points of interest along the route. This greenway crosses diverse natural environments, including the banks of the Doubs River, pastures, and fir forests. 

Interpretive panels are also located along the route, allowing you to discover sites to visit, such as the Entreroches Gorge or Montbenoît Abbey. To fully enjoy this family outing, you can stay in a gîte, hotel, campsite, or bed and breakfast near the greenway. These accommodations offer a pleasant and welcoming setting, ideal for relaxing after a day of cycling. Furthermore, some offer services tailored to cyclists, such as bike storage or repair equipment. 

The Green Way, also known as the Railway Path, is 20 kilometers long, making it an accessible walk for everyone. The elevation changes are minimal, allowing you to fully enjoy the scenery without too much effort. Along the way, you can admire magnificent views of the Doubs Valley, which marks the border with Switzerland. These panoramas offer moments of contemplation and relaxation, perfect for discovering the surrounding nature. 

For the more athletic, it's possible to extend the ride by taking the greenway to Pontarlier. This extension adds 18 kilometers to the initial route, offering a great opportunity to explore more of the Haut-Doubs region. It's also possible to do a round trip on the entire greenway, for a total distance of 32 kilometers. 

The approximately 150 meters of elevation gain are easily manageable, even for less experienced cyclists. The Green Way, the old railway line, is perfectly maintained and safe. The asphalt surface allows for a pleasant and smooth ride, regardless of the type of bicycle used. Rollerbladers, wheelchair users, roller skiers, and cyclists with narrow tires can also enjoy this cycle path. Parking is available at the access points, making vehicle parking easy.
