Description

The Kaolin Green Way: a nature walk between the sea and the history of Morbihan

The Kaolin Green Way stretches for 10 km, linking Lorient to Courégant beach in Ploemeur. This route is ideal for families and cycling enthusiasts, including e-bikes. Following a former railway line, it offers a unique experience combining sea, countryside, and industrial heritage.

The route begins in the Kerfichant district of Lorient, where the cycle path starts before winding its way through a protected environment. After passing through a tunnel under the Mourillon road, the path crosses varied landscapes: woods, fields, and former kaolin quarries. These quarries, still in operation, bear witness to the local history linked to the extraction of this mineral, which was once transported by train for various uses, from porcelain to tiles.

One of the highlights of the route is the panoramic view of the ocean and the island of Groix, particularly in the final section leading to Le Courégant. Here, walkers can enjoy the beach and cafes for a well-deserved break.

To prepare for your outing, don't forget to consult the Map of the Kaolin Green Wayto identify access points and possible connections. For example, a developed access point at Lann er Roch allows access to Fort-Bloqué and its golf course. This greenway could also connect to other local circuits under development, thus enriching the regional cycling network.

Fully paved and safe, this path is accessible to everyone: bicycles, e-bikes, rollerblades, strollers, and even wheelchairs. Away from traffic, it guarantees a peaceful, friendly, and rejuvenating experience. A perfect getaway to combine leisure, exploration, and fresh air.
