Marne-Rhine Canal Greenway - V52

The Marne-Rhine Canal Green Way offers a gentle respite in the heart of the Meuse, between Fains-les-Sources and Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain. For nearly 30 kilometers, it follows the towpath of the Ornain and reveals a route accessible to all: walkers, experienced cyclists, e-bike enthusiasts or families looking for an easy ride. With its flat layout, 2,5m width and surface suitable for all types of bikes, this cycle path is ideal for a half-day outing.

From Bar-le-DucThe Meuse region, the "small capital", is a captivating destination thanks to its rich heritage: Marbeaumont castle, Saint-Étienne collegiate church, or the Renaissance upper townHistory buffs will then stop at Naix-aux-Forges, on the remains of the Gallo-Roman city of Nassium, and at the foot of theoppidum of the LeuquesBetween these two points, the route passes through a succession of villages, each with its own unique charm: Longeville-en-Barrois, Tannois, Tronville or even Ligny-en-Barrois with its marina equipped for a friendly stopover.

The unique feature of this route lies in its rare and spectacular engineering structures: 30 locks, two drawbridges, four canal bridges and several grating footbridges which are reminiscent of river life in bygone days. The valley, wide at first, gradually narrows and offers changing landscapes between water, hedgerows and hillsides.
