Description

In Bidart, the greenway leads to the beach

The Uhabia greenway offers a peaceful respite in the heart of Bidart, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its east-west route, a rarity on the Basque Coast, is particularly noteworthy, connecting the ocean to the inland districts by following the discreet course of the Uhabia River. This walk begins at the estuary, near the beach, runs along the riverbanks, skirts the Ur Onea retention basin, then reaches the Bassilour Mill before continuing as a cycle path towards the Izarbel technology park.

This is an ideal route for families: the path is short, easy to follow, safe, and punctuated with nature stops, boardwalks, wooden furniture, and reading tables. Whether on a regular bike or an e-bike, you'll discover Bidart in a new light, far removed from the town's purely seaside image. The greenway reveals a preserved valley, riverside atmospheres, shady spots, and also a living heritage with the Moulin de Bassilour, a gourmet stop and an iconic landmark along the route.

Before setting off, it's helpful to consult the Uhabia greenway map to locate access points, alternative routes, and connections. The main town along the route is Bidart, but its true value lies in its links with neighboring routes. In particular, it connects to La Vélodyssée, EuroVelo 1, which runs along the Atlantic coast and crosses Bidart from north to south, between Biarritz and Guéthary.

The Uhabia greenway is therefore not just a local walk: it is a practical and scenic link, designed for both residents and holidaymakers, connecting beaches, campsites, neighborhoods, services and major cycling routes.
