Green Way in the Cathar Pyrenees

Linking Lavelanet to Mirepoix, this greenway was created on the former railway line that operated during the heyday of the textile industry. It crosses the Ariège department and extends into the neighboring Aude department, passing through Laroque d'Olmes, Labastide-sur-Hers, Sainte-Colombe-sur-l'Hers, Chalabre, Carmon, and finally Mirepoix. A pleasant outing for families, punctuated by numerous engineering structures (bridges and tunnels), it offers the opportunity for a water-based stop at Lake Montbel (approximately 1 km away). Ideal for a weekend in this foothill region of the Pyrenees or a delightful getaway during a longer holiday, with accommodations available nearby (hotels, campsites, gîtes and rentals, bed and breakfasts, etc.). The Plantaurel massif, the Pyrenees, and the mid- to high-altitude mountains provide a stunning backdrop.
