
The route between Thiviers et Nontron, along 31 km, constitutes a beautiful step in The Flow Vélolinking the lands of Périgord Vert to the Bandiat Valley. This route invites you to a gentle and bucolic immersion in the Périgord countryside, dotted with charming villages, medieval heritage and local know-how.
The departure is at Thiviers, a city renowned for its foie gras and its local produce. Before getting in the saddle, it's the perfect opportunity to stroll through the shopping streets and prepare a picnic basket. The town also offers a lovely walking tour, including the Foie gras house, Filolie Castle, Or the Jean-Paul Sartre's family home. From the TER station (Limoges - Périgueux line), Thiviers is easily accessible, making it an excellent starting point.
The route quickly leaves the heart of the village to reach a greenway on a former railway line. This section of 17 kmSheltered by trees and away from traffic, it offers a tranquil journey into the heart of forest landscapes and valleys typical of the Perigord-LimousinThe rustic surface, suitable for hybrid or mountain bikes, enhances the natural charm of this section.
A few hundred meters south of the route, a short detour takes you to Saint-Jean-de-Cole, listed among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France". Its Marthonie Castle, medieval bridge and half-timbered houses seem frozen outside of time: an unmissable stop for lovers of history and old stones.
Continuing along the greenway, we arrive at Saint-Pardoux-la-Riviere, Where the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park highlights local biodiversity. The passage over the viaduct offers a lovely viewpoint, before continuing on a section of shared road as far as Nontron. This section, though not very busy, nevertheless offers a more pronounced reliefrequiring a little more effort – a difficulty that will soon be alleviated thanks to the future rehabilitation of a tunnel and a viaduct.
