From Domfront to Mayenne: a journey along the Varenne and Mayenne rivers

Between Normandy and Pays de la LoireThe Vélo Francette invites you to explore a route rich in historical patrimony, river landscapes, and charming villages. The departure takes place at Domfront, whose ruins of the medieval castle, the half-timbered houses, the watchtowers and fortified gates offer a first immersion in a remarkable heritage. Caution is advised when crossing the D976, before crossing the Varenne via an elegant Eiffel-style railway bridge, a vestige of 19th-century engineering.

Shortly afterwards, cyclists have two options: continue along the greenway towards Ceaucé, or take a more winding road variant via Torchamp, Saint Fraimbault, Worried, to join the greenway from Ambrières-les-Vallées to Mayenne at the place called La Boufferie. Both routes allow you to discover the river Varenne, particularly to the picturesque sites of Varenne Mill, Plank Bridge and Ambloux Millthe latter preceded by a notable side for those who love elevation gain.
